A Brighter Home Without Building Bigger

Renovating Within the Footprint
This renovation proves that you don’t always need to extend to transform the way a home feels and functions. At Pagewood Residents, we worked entirely within the existing footprint to deliver a lighter, brighter, more connected family home — complete with a new ensuite, reimagined living spaces, and a seamless outdoor connection.
The brief was clear: improve the layout, increase natural light, and create a more functional, family-friendly home — all without adding floor area. That meant working smarter with what was already there.
Reconfiguring Spaces for Flow
We reconfigured the rear of the home to create a generous open plan living space that now flows directly to a new alfresco area, lawn, and pool. The old laundry — previously occupying prime real estate at the back of the house — was relocated to make way for this new heart of the home. A former walk-in robe became a compact but efficient ensuite, while the original bathroom and its awkward hallway were reworked into a larger, more practical laundry with direct outdoor access.

Light, Comfort and Climate Control
Throughout, the focus was on clarity, comfort, and connection. Skylights bring daylight deep into the living space, while acoustic insulation and a new door between living and sleeping zones ensure peace and quiet where it matters. The new layout also took better advantage of the home’s northeast rear aspect. We sought to maximise the amount of beautiful winter sun flooding into the new open plan living area while also employing shading devices to ensure the living spaces remain shaded in the heat of summer.
Outside, a new pergola-covered alfresco area extends the living space, creating a natural link to the pool and garden. It’s a home that now supports family life, entertaining, and quiet moments — all without a single square metre of extension.
At Pagewood, we were reminded that good design isn’t always about adding more. Sometimes, it’s about seeing the potential in what’s already there — and making it work harder, smarter, and more beautifully.
